2030 Agenda For Sustainable Development

United Nations

On September 3, 2020, Ms. Yen Chou, the President of the Chinese American Parent-Student Council (CAPSC), was invited to participate in the UN Women Stakeholder Consultation Workshop, virtually organized by UN Women China. The productive, informative, and insightful nature of the meeting gathered relevant stakeholders to discuss UN Women China’s first-ever strategic note. The strategic note will serve as the country office’s blueprint for 2021-2025, outlining the priorities and goals for the development and empowerment of women and girls in China. During the Strategic Note conference, CAPSC presented the following statement of suggestions below:

With education and training as the main focus, we aim to ensure all men and women have equal rights to economic resources, with the funds used to efficiently achieve the following goals:

  • Improve women's education levels;

  • Foster sustainable development of women-related industries or women-led careers;

  • Protect the rights and interests of women and girls across legal, political, economic, social, and safety aspects;

  • Actively improve the health and wellness of women and girls;

  • Actively strengthen the training of women in various industries to make them economically and financially independent;

  • Train a large number of talented women with opportunities for leadership roles to participate in all aspects of international exchanges.

The COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on all 17 SDGs have shown how a health crisis can quickly become a human and socio-economic crisis. Participation from non-governmental organizations and the public and private sectors is necessary to deliver upon the commitments set forth during the United Nations Decade of Action.

 Charity Fundraising Gala

 Chinese American Parent-Student Council, in partnership with UN Women China,  Global Goodwill Ambassador, and various civil societies, organized the Global Goodwill Charity Fundraising Gala in China. With the overlaying message of "Join Hands for Gender Equality," the event focused on the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of women around the world. It served as an intrinsic platform to call all stakeholders to stand together and work together to bring forth an increased awareness of pertinent issues affecting gender equality and advancement of women to the forefront of the global community.  Since inception, the Gala raised 400,000 USD to support the mission and work of UN Women in China and globally.

The Mother's Day and Outstanding Honoree Celebration

The Mother's Day and Outstanding Honoree Celebration has been hosted by Chinese American Parent-Student Council (CAPSC) for ten consecutive years now. Not surprisingly, the theme for the Mother's Day and Outstanding Honoree Celebration is motherhood and maternal love. In addition, though, not only do we honor all mothers everywhere, CAPSC selects a dozen or so mothers in the Chinese American community here in New York City (and even abroad) who have contributed so much to the community, either themselves or the children they so painstakingly nurtured. Every year there is extensive press coverage from all the Chinese newspapers and news channels. For the past few years, the event has also been shown live on television. Past guest speakers have included numerous business leaders, government leaders, and community leaders: Assemblyman David Weprin, Congressman Gary Ackerman, Senator Schumer, to name just a few. CAPSC has also been honored by video messages from Former US Secretary of Labor and Current US Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao and Former United States Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
